November 8, 2017, Toronto – Boffin, the Asian language service provider, today announced that its new VideoLocalize platform has won the coveted TAUS Innovation Excellence Award in the Insider category. TAUS, the resource center for the global language and translation industries, presented the award to President and Co-founder George Zhao following his presentation at the organization's Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon.

This is the second year in a row that we have won this award. In 2016, we won this TAUS Innovation Excellence Award for VideoLocalize's special Karaoke style feature, where the voice talent will record each sentence, as in a Karaoke style, to match what is on the screen in every language the first time, avoiding high re-recording costs. For the 2017 competition, we developed an algorithm to automate video dubbing to match the voice over with the original video in post-editing. As Zhao observed, "Like the text expansion problem in translation, the length of the multilingual voiceover can expand or shrink in video localization too." His solution was to either slow down the video to match the voice recording length or speed up the voice over to match the video length.
